FRUITFUL DATA WORKS WITH LEADERS OF VALUES-LED ORGANISATIONS TO BECOME

  • MORE EFFICIENT
  • MORE CONFIDENTLY COMPLIANT
  • AND MORE DECISIVE

WITH THEIR DATA.

My Story

Fruitful Data was founded by Joanna Fulford. After years of working in the not-for-profit sector, Jo experienced first hand the disappointments of bad data – and has learnt how to remedy them.

Now, Fruitful Data offers training and consulting for purpose-driven organisations who are frustrated with wasting time, money and morale on handling data that doesn’t work for them.

How I can help

Data Strategy

How well does the data in your CRM and other systems support your organisation in delivering its goals? A data strategy will help you identify what data you need and how you’ll get hold of it, how you’ll organise it and how you’ll use it, which systems and tools will be used for what purpose, the skills your staff will need to work with your data effectively, and how you’ll remain compliant with GDPR. I can help you develop a data strategy that will align the use of your supporter or other data with your organisation’s objectives.

Data Governance

Does anyone have oversight of all the ways in which your data is used and how that’s co-ordinated across the organisation? Who is accountable for ensuring the data is good enough for teams to deliver their objectives, and who is responsible on a day-to-day basis for making sure and shortcomings in the data are resolved?

A data governance framework provides clarity on roles and responsibilities for your data, a common understanding of what data you have and its purpose, agreed quality standards for each data item and processes for ensuring those quality standards are delivered. I can help you design and implement a data governance framework that aligns with your organisation’s existing governance approach. Alternatively I can help you strengthen the weak spots in an existing data governance framework.

Data Quality

This is often the place where people want to start their data improvement journey as this is where the pain is really felt.  You have an inspiring strategy, a delivery plan and an engaged team, but the data just isn’t up to scratch. It’s so frustrating!

Instead of delivering your objectives you end up faffing about for weeks or months trying to cobble data together that you know is still not completely reliable.  I can help you work through a tried-and-tested process to resolve data quality issues – either by troubleshooting a specific, acute problem – or by thinking strategically about how to ensure the data you rely on is fit for purpose on an ongoing basis.

Recent Projects

The Prince’s Trust recognised that a new Data Governance Framework would help to strengthen its approach to data management but was lacking the practical experience and knowledge to define what this would look like.

Jo brought with her a wealth of experience and knowledge that enabled us to develop a new framework that will work specifically for our organisation.

Jo’s calm and methodical approach made her very easy to work with. She was able to easily engage with a number of different stakeholders and in a short space of time draw out the information she needed to develop a bespoke set of documents that will support our Data Governance ambitions.

The knowledge and resource Jo provided us with will help us to embed our new approach to Data Governance across the organisation and ultimately improve the way we manage data. From an individual perspective, I’ve learnt a lot from my engagement with Jo and feel a lot more confident about supporting the organisation to take this work forward. Our work in this area would have taken a lot longer to progress without her expertise and advice and she has left us in a good place to take the work forward.

Screenskills has developed a fantastic digital platform to connect people in the screen industry with opportunities to develop their careers however they were concerned they were missing opportunities to deliver even greater impact to their beneficiaries and value to their funders.

I worked with them to map out the lifecycle of their beneficiary data and interviewed staff across the organisation to gather and consolidate information and opinions.  Five key recommendations were shared with the senior leadership team to strengthen the management of their data in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives, and the organisation plans to implement all 5 recommendations in priority order.

The Advertising Standards Authority wanted to include social media platforms as a new dimension to its reports so it could engage more effectively with the companies that own them, however this data was not collected. I helped them determine how they wanted to present that information and then worked backwards to define how the data would be gathered, stored and used to create the reports.

New reference data sets needed to be introduced – including values agreed by stakeholders – on the online complaint form used by the public, as well as their case management system, data warehouse and reporting tools.  The ASA was subsequently able to provide evidence to social media companies of the resource needed to process complaints about ads on their platforms.

The leadership team at the Institute for Family Business were stuck trying to decide whether they should invest further in developing their existing CRM system or look at alternatives for reporting.  They felt staff were putting a lot of data in but not getting much value out. Once the engagement was underway the focus shifted as their umbrella organisation was offering access to a different CRM being developed in other countries at a significantly reduced cost compared to a conventional CRM implementation.

I helped them documant their data and business activity requirements and evaluate whether to take advantage of this opportunity, invest in a reporting tool or invest further in their existing CRM system.
